IR Filter
The IR cut Filter is widely used in camera or video systems to block the IR and UV light from entering the system. Photonchina can supply IR filters according to customer requirements.
IR cut-off filters allow visible transmission and block the infrared. There are two types of filters, absorptive filters and reflective filters. Absorptive filters are made with special optical glass that absorbs near infrared radiation.
Reflective filters reflect infrared light with high efficiency and allow the visible transmission. They are used for CCD or CMOS imagers to produce vivid images.
See the coating curve below.
Comparison between absorptive filters and reflective filters.
- Advantages of reflective type:
The cut-off characteristic is very steep.
The cut-off wavelength can be set arbitrarily.
Disadvantages of reflective type:
Incident angle of light impacts performance. The curves of 0 ° and 20 ° have seen obvious deviation, for instance.
NIR is reflected back into the optical system.
- Advantages of absorptive type:
The correlation with the incident angle is small.
Passing band can be designed to be very wide, complete cut-off band can be very large.
Less NIR is reflected.
Disadvantages of absorptive type:
The cut-off characteristic is not steep.
The cut-off frequency is determined by the coating materials
The characteristics will change due to the environment of use.
Applications of IR Filter:
Applications of core optical components for imaging cameras such as mobile phones, cameras, vehicles, PCs, tablets, and security monitoring.
